The Lowry Trail
The Lowry Trail is named after Laurence Stephen Lowry, who is famous for his ‘matchstick men’ paintings of industrial scenes and back-to-back terraced houses. In the 1930’s when he was on holiday in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, he painted cobbled streets and seaside scenes, which is where the name of the trail came from.
The Lowry Trail allows you to experience some of the hidden gems of the town, Coronation Parks and the views of the three bridges that span the River Tweed, including Stevenson’s Royal Border Bridge. The first point on the Lowry Trail is when you reach Berwick’s Old Bridge, and then head along Bridge Street to Dewar’s Lane. You will follow the Lowry Trail around Berwick town, crossing the river to Tweedmouth, continuing along to Spittal where you can enjoy views of the sea while walking along the promenade.

In the nearby town, Berwick has plenty of facilities including pubs, restaurants and shops as well as railway and bus connections. Berwick-Upon-Tweed is steeped in history, from having changed hands between the English and Scottish endless times before the Act of Union in 1707.
